Get to know us About Us About Us Our Mission New Perspectives began in 1973 with a clear objective: to bring an urgent story to a new audience. Today, as a leading touring theatre company based in the East Midlands, we continue to make new writing accessible to people in a wide range of spaces and places. We remain true to the company’s original focus of sharing exceptional and thought-provoking stories, amplifying underrepresented voices and supporting local talent. What We Do Unlock Creative Imagination: Touring Theatre We make high-quality, exciting theatre that is affordable and accessible, touring our productions to the heart of rural villages, towns and cities – to wherever you live. For 50 years, the scale and ambition of our productions have brought us widespread critical acclaim and taken us to some extraordinary places from rural spaces to major theatres across the UK and overseas. To see what we’ve got coming up, view our What’s On page here. Or, to find out more about our past productions, visit our catalogue here. Fuel Ambition: Artist Development Innovation and collaboration are intertwined in every aspect of New Perspectives which is why we are so proud to run our New Associates artist development programme. Each year we select a group of early-to mid-career artists from across the East Midlands to join our year-long professional development programme. Over 30 New Associates have already benefited from our industry know-how as we continue to nurture and support new ideas to flourish and grow our alumni network. For more information, visit our New Associates page here. Nurture Aspiration: Community Development We recognise that theatre is all around us. We are passionate about giving a voice to those who don’t necessarily see themselves as artists but have an amazing story to tell. We provide rookies with the professional support they need to tell their story in a creative way enabling unheard voices to shine. Peterborough was the company’s first home, renamed Key Perspectives thanks to a residency from 1973. Born from Theatre in Education roots, the company’s first production, a devised piece about David Oluwale, a homeless Nigerian man killed in British police custody in the 1960s, toured to schools and young audiences. A move to the city’s Cresset Theatre saw the company become Perspectives Theatre Company in 1979, resettling in Mansfield in 1982 where we became New Perspectives in 1988. The company changed from a cooperative to having Helen White as the company’s artistic director; becoming a registered charity in 1996. Gavin Stride, Daniel Buckroyd, Jack McNamara and now Angharad Jones have followed as illustrious artistic leaders and New Perspectives has been resident in the Nottingham suburb of Basford since 2006. The company grew from devising roots, emerging with a strong rural focus and continues to give artists a voice and break down barriers, making theatre accessible to people are audiences and participants.
