The Honey Man

Cast

Tyrone Huggins

Born in St. Kitts, Tyrone Huggins became actively involved in theatre at school and attended Birmingham Youth Theatre. In 1978 he co-founded the experimental/visual theatre company Impact Theatre Co-operative, touring nationally and internationally. Whilst maintaining his links with Impact as a Technical Manager, set-builder, and lighting/sound technician he began working with other small-scale companies including People Show, Hesitate & Demonstrate, and Cliffhanger. As an actor, Tyrone has performed in over seventy theatre productions at repertory theatres and arts centres across Britain, including in Murmuring Judges and The Absence of War (Royal National Theatre). Beatification of Area Boy (West Yorkshire Playhouse); Fences (The Garrick Theatre); Noughts & Crosses (Royal Shakespeare Company); Sun and Heir (Royal Opera House, Thurrock). Major tours include Of Mice & Men (Birmingham Repertory Theatre and Savoy Theatre, West End). His small-scale touring work includes productions with Graeme Miller Company, People Show, Temba, Talawa, Paines Plough and for Black Theatre Co-operative in Ray Shell's Iced. As a Director his credits include Journeys (The Play House, Birmingham); Sparkleshark (West Sussex County Youth Theatre) and Transformation - a collaboration between People Show and Contact Theatre’s Young Actors Company. Film appearances include The Last Client and Run Fat Boy Run. As a writer, Tyrone has written twelve commissioned plays and performance pieces, including Choo Choo Ch' Boogie and The Carver Chair, produced at the Octagon Bolton and Contact Manchester, the radio playEmigrating Home (BBC Radio 4) and dance pieces Shared Testament and Phoenix Anthology:19 for RJC and Phoenix Dance Companies. His biographical performance piece Garrett Augustus Morgan remained in repertoire at the Science Museum for several years. His multimedia play Platform Tales was performed by West Sussex County Youth Theatre. As part ofTheatre Of Darkness his productions include the touring solo show Darkness Into Light and Sounds…In Session his music-theatre piece about the influence of technology on the creative process which was published by Oberon Books in 1998.

Esther Smith

Esther graduated from The Guildford School of Acting in 2008 with a First Class Honours degree. Theatre credits include working with Company of Angels on Theatre Cafe Festival (Unicorn theatre) and This Child (Southark Playhouse); The Author (Royal Court/Tour); Romeo and Juliet (Mosaica Chocolate Factory); Many Moons and Carrot (Theatre 503). Television credits include Material Girl (BBC1) and Misfits (E4)

Juliet trained at Ravensbourne and Croydon Colleges of Art and was awarded an Arts Council Bursary. She has worked extensively with New Perspectives Theatre Company, the Nuffield Theatre, Southampton, Curve Theatre, Leicester and most recently Mercury Theatre, Colchester. New Perspectives credits include Last Train to Nibroc, The Long Way Home,The Allotment, On Saturdays this bed is Poland, The Hired Man(also part of the 2008 Brits off Broadway festival in New York). Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Faith Healer, Dolly, The Honey Man (co-production with Derby Live), The Butterfly Lion (co-production with Curve, Leicester) and most recently Entertaining Angels (UK tour) and The Lovesong of Alfred J Hitchcock (co-production Curve Theatre Leicester).

Nuffield credits include She Stoops to Conquer, Playboy of the Western World,The House of Bernarda Alba, Betrayal, Peeler, Alchemy in the UK and most recently God of Carnage. Curve Theatre, Leicester credits include The Pillowman (The first production in the studio space), The Lieutenant of Inishmore, The Long Road,Translations, Molly Sweeney and Absurd Person Singular.

Most recently, The Hired Man (a Mercury Theatre, Colchester production) and The Butterfly Lion (a co-production for Mercury Theatre, Colchester and Curve, Leicester).
Exhibitions include PQ07 Prague Quadrennial and Collaborators: UK Design for Performance at the V&A.

Lighting Designer - Jeremy Rowe

Jeremy has worked extensively with New Perspectives, most recently as touring Stage Manager for The Lovesong of Alfred Hitchcock. Previously he has been Lighting Designer and touring Stage Manager for Entertaining Angels, Goldfish(New Perspectives STEP UP Creatives ensemble performance), Farm Boy, The Butterfly Lion, The Honey Man, How Steeple Sinderby Won the FA Cupand Those Magnificent Men. Previous New Perspectives stage management includes Lark Rise to Candleford, Wasteland, On Saturdays This Bed Is Poland and lighting The Railway Childrenand Players Angels.

For Tangere Arts Hood in the Wood and I’m No Hero. For Forest Forge New Found Lands. For Shifting Sands The Devil’s Doctor and Great Expectations. He’s toured extensively with Opera Della Luna, lighting their productions of Rusalka, Tales of Hoffmann and Robinson Crusoe at Iford’s Opera Festival, where he then worked as technical-manager for several seasons. Other lighting designs included Extravaganza’s pantomimes, Forbidden Fruit for Random Line, Edwinstowe’s Pageant and Banner Project plus several music events including the Atom stage at Music Live, NEC.

New Perspectives is an East Midlands' based touring theatre company, specialising in bringing new work to rural and community audiences. Through an annual programme of original adaptations, rare revivals and new writing, we aim to bring live theatre that is diverse, affordable and accessible into the heart of wide-ranging communities, as well as to regional, national and international venues.  
Our productions are testament to the fact that rural theatre is as relevant, challenging and vital as theatre made for any other environment.
