The Giant Jam Sandwich

BAP THE BAKER'S EASY BREAD RECIPE
Something fun to try at home with the help of an adult...

Ingredients
3 cups strong bread flour
pinch of salt
1 packet of quick action yeast
2 tablespoons of vegetable or sunflower oil
1 cup of warm water
1 tablespoon of sugar
Making the dough
Preheat the oven to 220C/ fan 200C
Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl
Make a well in the centre of the bowl
Add in the vegetable oil and the warm water
Mix with a spoon until a dough is formed
Put the dough on a lightly floured surface
Thump it, bump it and bang it about for 5 - 10 minutes until smooth
Make into shapes or put in a loaf tin
Leave in a warm place for around an hour until doubled in size
Cook for 15 - 20 minutes for shaped rolls or 20 - 30 minutes for a loaf
Tap the bottom of the bread with your knuckle - a hollow sound means it's cooked. Careful, it's hot!
Leave to cool, then spread with butter and lashings of strawberry jam!

In the story Bap the Baker has the idea to make a giant jam sandwich to rid the village of wasps. Think about what you might do and draw a picture of your own ingenious invention for saving the villagers from being stung.

Send photos of your drawings and the bread you bake to info@newperspectives.co.uk, who it's by and their age and we'll feature it on our online gallery and website.

GOOD LUCK!

GETTING READY - THINGS TO DO BEFORE AND AFTER THE SHOW
Before you see the show think about:
What the story is going to be about?
What do you need to make a giant jam sandwich?
How many types of sandwiches can you think of?

After you've seen the show think about:
What were some of the funniest parts of this story?
What do you think the town should do to solve its problems?
What does the town do to solve its problem? Does it work?

Have a go at:
Writing a poem about food
Creating and drawing your own sandwich
Writing a diary of as a resident of Itchingdown
