A Fortunate Man

'To understand a landscape we have to situate ourselves in it'. When Berger and Mohr collaborated on A Fortunate Man they listened to music by Mahler, Schubert and Berg. Here's a playlist of music they may very well have listened to, to fire the imagination ahead of seeing our stage exploration.

John Berger's pioneering book:

John Berger (11/11/1926 - 02/01/2017) wrote widely about art and politics but only rarely about theatre and performance. His few plays are not widely performed, and his collaborations within theatre were relatively infrequent. Yet his insights have arguably informed the artistic practice - and political conscience - of generations of performance-makers. The symposium will explore the implications of Berger's thought for performance.

To further develop the critical understanding of Berger's thought, the University of Greenwich is holding this one-day symposium which will include early works-in-progress performances and commissioned performances, featuring an extract from our forthcoming production of A Fortunate Man.
