Open Pitch

Attracting new voices to the rural world
Writers, directors, artists and companies were invited to submit a one page pitch for a new piece of theatre or performance for rural audiences in a brand new opportunity for theatre-makers based in or from the Midlands for development in the East Midlands region.
We requested adventurous and exciting ideas to become part of our signature programme from ANY of the following areas:

-new play or adaptation
-devised performance
-multidisciplinary cross-artform
-site-specific or community performance

In addition to full-length performance pieces suitable for rural touring, we welcomed pitches for site-specific events designed for rural locations. We invited artists and companies to think about the creative possibilities of the rural environment and present something both inventive and achievable. Proposals were selected on the quality of ideas rather than the previous experience of the applicants.

Shortlisted applicants were invited to pitch their idea at New Perspectives. Three pitches received 3 days development support and collaborators Hugh Dichmont and Nadim Choudry have been awarded seed funding to develop their project over a six month period.

Information on Open Pitch 2020 will be announced here shortly; an initative kindly supported by The Garrick Chartiable Trust.
