actor, writer, stand-up comedian

Susan Earl has spent the last 30 years writing and performing for the BBC, Baby Cow Productions, and Rise Films. You might recognise her as Wellness Sue in Perrin, Sim Crawford from Red Dwarf and Mrs Griggs in So Awkward.

She’s also a stand-up comedian and a writer for the children’s series Bing, with Acamar Films, proving she can handle both prestige drama and high-velocity chaos.

It was Susan’s working-class stubbornness, along with an optimism that should be medically reviewed, that led her to write and perform in six shows, which she took to the Edinburgh festival. Susan also earned a ‘Best Newcomer’ nomination at Brighton Fringe for her one-woman show (which she mentions whenever possible). Susan loves to create complex female characters trapped between how they thought life would turn out and the messier, more frustrating version they got instead.

“I’m delighted to be a new associate with New Perspectives Theatre Company. Together I want to create
ambitious new theatre which puts complicated women centre stage and refuses to tidy them up.

Susan Earl, New Associate 2026/27
